Data Ownership

Effective date: June 23, 2026  ·  Last updated: June 23, 2026

The principle is simple: what stays on your device or in your private account is yours, completely and permanently. The moment you choose to share a collection publicly, you are contributing it to the Thngs platform and those rights transfer to us. This page explains exactly where that line is drawn.

1. At a Glance

Content type Who owns it What happens when you leave
Collections stored only on your device You Deleted with the app. We never had it.
Private collections stored on our servers You Permanently deleted within 30 days of account closure.
Privately shared collections (invited users only) You Permanently deleted within 30 days of account closure.
Publicly shared collections Thngs Remain on the platform at our discretion. See Section 4.

2. Your Private Data — Permanently Yours

Any collection you have not shared publicly belongs to you alone. This includes:

We have no claim over this data, no right to use it, and no ability to access it without your explicit action. When you close your account or delete the app, this data is permanently and irreversibly deleted from our systems within 30 days. We do not retain copies, backups, or derived data from your private collections after deletion.

We strongly recommend exporting your collections before closing your account. Once deleted, your data cannot be recovered by us or anyone else.

3. Exporting Your Data

You may export any of your collections at any time, regardless of your subscription tier. No approval is required. Exports include all item data, photos, notes, and tags associated with the collection. This right is unconditional and does not expire.

To export a collection, use the export function within the app. Your data is yours to take with you whenever you choose.

4. Publicly Shared Collections — Transfer of Rights

Please read this section carefully before making any collection public. Sharing a collection publicly is a meaningful, consequential action with respect to ownership. It is not the same as sharing privately.

When you choose to make a collection publicly available on the Thngs platform, you are making a permanent transfer of rights in that collection to Thngs. Specifically:

This transfer of rights reflects the nature of public sharing: when you contribute content to a public platform, that content becomes part of the platform's shared value for all users. Other users may discover, save, and rely on your public collection. Removing it on demand would degrade the experience for the community that has come to depend on it.

What you retain after making a collection public

Even after a rights transfer, you retain the following:

Thngs' commitment regarding public collections

While we own publicly shared collections, we commit to the following standards in how we steward them:

5. Account Closure

You may close your account at any time from within the app or by contacting us at support@urthngs.com. Upon account closure:

We recommend exporting any collections you wish to keep before initiating account closure. Once the deletion window has passed, recovery is not possible.
