And once it does, you can never find what you need. We think that’s a solvable problem.
The core idea: Every physical thing you own should be as searchable as a file on your computer — by what it looks like, what it is, or just a vague memory of it. Thngs makes that possible without compromising your privacy.
People accumulate things. Tools, clothes, books, collectibles, spare parts, seasonal decorations, wine, electronics — thousands of items across dozens of locations. Closets, attics, storage units, garages. As the collection grows, so does the anxiety of not knowing exactly what you have or where it is.
Spreadsheets are too slow. Photo albums are unsearchable. Your memory is unreliable. And nothing on the market is actually built around the idea that your inventory should be photographed, organized, and retrieved visually — without being a full-time job.
Thngs is.
You photograph an item. Thngs catalogs it into a collection of your choosing. When you need to find something later, you search — by description, by image, by concept, or by a half-remembered detail. The app finds it in milliseconds.
Private collections live entirely on your device. We never see them. If you choose to share a collection, it moves to our servers, where it becomes accessible to whoever you’ve invited — or to anyone, if you make it public.
There’s no magic trick. It’s careful engineering applied to a problem that everyone has and nobody has solved well.
Private collections never touch our servers. We built the architecture around that constraint from day one, not as an afterthought.
We say no to a lot. The app does a small number of things and tries to do them better than anything else. Photograph, organize, find.
Thngs is a platform for everyone. Users of all ages are welcome. We hold public content to a high standard so the experience stays safe.
We don’t sell it, broker it, or train on it without your permission. Public collections transfer to Thngs on account closure — everything else is yours to export or delete.
Thngs is an independent product. We’re a small team that got tired of losing track of things and decided to do something about it. We’re not backed by a platform that wants your data, and we’re not building toward an exit. We’re building something we use every day and want to keep using.
Enterprise customers and organizations with larger inventory needs are welcome — see the Enterprise page for what that looks like.
